WorkVisual Culture of Wales – Imaging the Nation

The Visual Culture of Wales: Imaging the Nation (CD-ROM)
(Cardiff, 2002)

After the completion of the CD-ROM for Industrial Society, the second CD-ROM followed a similar pattern, with the main interpretative sections complemented by a reference section.

The publication was broader in scope and higher in ambition, partly because the team had more of a sense of what was possible, and because we had developed a successful model to build on.

During the production of the volume I took on more of the design, photography and audio editing responsibilities, to help with the volume of material and new approaches to it. Following publication in 2002, the CD-ROM won the Besterman McColvin medal for an outstanding work of reference in the electronic category at the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals/Whitaker Reference Awards.

Photograph of the artist Ivor Davies, during an interview with Peter Lord, 2001. As well as editing and illustrating this long interview with the artist for the Perspectives section, I also created one of the shorter Time Gallery pieces from his description of the Welsh and Celtic Pantheon, a large painting by the artist displayed in the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies.
